There and back again…

I wrote yesterday about boldly going where no man has gone before…
And when I was writing it, I kept thinking not of Captain Kirk… but of… Bilbo Baggins…
Bilbo went where no Hobbit had gone before…
When he came back, Bilbo wrote the book "There and back again", recounting his adventures with Thorin and his company of Dwarves, to reconquer Erebor.
Later… Bilbo said to Frodo in The Lord of the Rings:
"It's a dangerous business, going out your door.
You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet,
there's no knowing where you might be swept off to."
Yes… That's again is all about your career my dear friend you.
Because you've done that…
You stepped onto the road…
You've been swept off to many projects, problems, companies…
You went to the unknown technologies, far beyond you knew existed…
And…
You went there…
And came back again.
Now…
Like Bilbo…
It is time for you to write YOUR book.
The Adventures of you in the Technology World
There and Back Again
Not because your adventures are finished.
But because they are just beginning!
No, I'm not proposing you write a book…
(Although you could…)
But the more you understand who you are, how your skills are important, how unique is your career and your story…
The more you can help others to improve their careers…
And that in turn gets you to improve YOUR career…
When I say that, people tell me:
"Bruno, this is unrealistic… What if everyone shared, and helped? Everyone would be the same!"
Yeah… If everyone did…
It would actually be awesome!
Imagine everyone better off?
(and you are right, maybe we would need another strategy…)
But…
The reality is…
No one does it!
So… Although I'm here making this suggestion for you to grow your career…
I also know that most people won't read this email all the way till here…
And most that read till here, won't do anything about it…
So…
We are back at you …
Now…
