When life gives you lemons…

Many devs want to contribute back…
Many already know that sharing is important…
Many developers want to share about something…
Yet…
"Does it even make sense for me to share content about this?
There are so many other people… who are much better than me… already sharing about the same thing?"
I was thinking about this a few minutes ago, while I was picking lemons with my wife, Karina.
You see… We have a bunch of fruit trees in our yard…
None of them give as much fruit as the lemon tree!
And although that is a good amount… It's a single tree!
It's not like we have a lemon plantation or something like that.
Yet… It is enough for us to use for juice, tea, cakes…
And Karina does an month-watering lemon mousse, that is unbelievable!
Karina shares lemons (and mousse) with our daughters, neighbors and friends…
Yet…
Why do we even bother to pick them up?
If there are so many more lemon specialists, that have much better lemons than ours?
Why would any friend use our lemons, instead of lemons they can pick up at the closest supermarket?
Why do we take care of the lemon tree, and do the work of picking lemons, when, in the market, they have lemons all year round, for cheap, anytime they need them?
Ok…
I hope you see how silly those questions are!
That is how silly I think the question of "does it makes sense for me to share content" is…
You have your lemon tree.
You have something that no one else does.
And you can share that.
No matter how many other "similar" lemon trees exists, what you have is valuable.
It may be even MORE valuable…
Now…
Karina makes the effort…
Because, someone has to go pick lemons up.
And wash them, and package, and separate for friends.
Someone has to cut, squeeze, mix, bake, decorate.
Karina thinks about who likes lemons… plan for us to go meet them…. or figures out a way to drop in their houses…
Someone needs to care…
Both about the content… the lemons…
But more: about the people that needs or wants the content.
So…
It is not about the content and how many people are sharing it…
It is about who you are, and who you are caring about.
It is about life giving you lemons… and you making the best with them.
The easy job is to just leave the lemons in the tree…
They will rot and fall. And make no sound and no impact…
That is happening right now with your content…
The projects, the experiences, the lessons, the mistakes you made…
They are being left in the tree of your life…
Where they slowly rot and go stale…
It is up to you to pick them up, clean, prepare, package…
And it is up to you to find the people that need it.
When you do… They will thank you for it!
Karina receives pictures of cakes and deserts, of drinks and happy families, of friends and family that used her lemons as a basis to do something…
Something that would not exist if it was not her going to pick up some small amount of lemons, in a lone lemon tree…
Lemons that no one asked for, and that anyone could just go buy in the nearest market…
Don't let your lemons rot in the tree of your life…
Do something with them…
Not only you will increase your impact…
Not only your career will be much better off for that…
You will build amazing friendships and relationships!
